Chelsea Women enter the 2025-26 Women's Super League (WSL) season looking to maintain their dominance after securing a sixth successive league title and a domestic treble in the previous season. Despite their success, manager Sonia Bompastor believes there's room for improvement, aiming for more consistent performances.

Last Season and Expectations

Chelsea's prior season was remarkable, marked by an unbeaten run in the WSL, with only three draws in 22 matches. They clinched the WSL title by a significant 12-point margin. In addition to their league triumph, they also secured the Women's League Cup and the Women's FA Cup, showcasing their strength across all domestic competitions. However, their Champions League journey was cut short in the semi-finals against Barcelona. For the upcoming season, the team has been working on giving even more clarity to the players, so they can execute what the coaches want them to achieve on the pitch.

Key Changes and Continuity

The team has focused on consolidation and building towards consistent performances. While there haven't been drastic changes, the arrival of Ellie Carpenter is a notable addition. Chelsea have also signed goalkeepers Livia Peng and Becky Spencer. The benefit for Chelsea heading into the new campaign is that they have a more settled squad and a more settled manager. Bompastor emphasizes that the focus will be on going into further detail on the work they were trying to achieve last season.

The Title Challenge

Maintaining their hold on the league title will be a significant challenge. Arsenal, boosted by their Champions League win, and Manchester City, with a new manager and returning players, are eager to dethrone Chelsea.

Opening Fixture and Key Dates

Chelsea will begin their campaign with a home match against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on September 5, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. Other key dates include an away game against Arsenal on November 8 and a home fixture against them on January 25. They will also face Manchester United at home on the final day of the season.

Broadcast Coverage

Sky Sports will broadcast 90% of all WSL games from the 2025/26 season onwards, marking a new five-year partnership with the WSL. This increased coverage will provide greater exposure for the league and its teams.
