In a stunning upset in the Carabao Cup, League Two side Grimsby Town eliminated Manchester United, with their goalkeeper, Christy Pym, playing a pivotal role. Pym, a confessed Manchester United fan, humorously admitted to being "half fuming" after his heroics contributed to his team's victory against the Red Devils.

The match, which took place on August 27, 2025, saw Grimsby Town emerge victorious after a tense penalty shootout, marking Manchester United's first elimination in the second round since 2014. Pym's performance was crucial, as he made seven saves during the game, including a denial of a penalty from Matheus Cunha during the shootout. Despite his efforts, Pym felt he "should've done a little bit better" in the penalty shootout.

Pym's mixed emotions stemmed from his allegiance to Manchester United. In a post-match interview, he said that it hadn't sunk in yet and that he was "half fuming a little bit," while acknowledging that "nights like this are what you play football for".

Despite conceding two late goals that forced the game into penalties, Pym's performance was brilliant against the team he supports. He also mentioned that he and the coach had reviewed penalty strategies, but the opponent's changes during the shootout left him slightly frustrated.

This victory was particularly significant as it was Grimsby Town's first meeting with Manchester United since 1948. The historic win propels Grimsby into the third round of the Carabao Cup, where they are set to face Sheffield Wednesday between September 15–22.
