PV Sindhu delivered a stunning performance at the BWF World Championships 2025 in Paris, defeating world number two Wang Zhiyi of China to advance to the quarterfinals. The Indian shuttler, currently ranked 15th in the world, showcased glimpses of her past form, securing a straight-game victory with scores of 21-19, 21-15 in just 48 minutes.

Sindhu's aggressive play and precision proved too much for Wang, who has been enjoying a successful season. This win marks Sindhu's first quarterfinal appearance at the World Championships since her gold-winning run in 2019.

The opening game was closely contested, with Wang displaying resilience. However, Sindhu held her nerve and clinched the first game 21-19 with sharp attacks. In the second game, Sindhu dominated from the start, taking an early lead and sealing the match 21-15.

This victory improves Sindhu's head-to-head record against Wang to 3-2. Throughout the match, Sindhu's confidence and determination were evident, reminiscent of her peak form that led her to Olympic medals and a World Championship title.

In the quarterfinals, Sindhu will face Indonesian shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani. While Sindhu lost to Wardani earlier this year, she will be looking to capitalize on her current momentum and secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Earlier in the tournament, Sindhu defeated Karupathevan Letshanaa from Malaysia in straight games. In other action, the Indian mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also advanced to the quarterfinals after upsetting fifth seeds Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong.

Sindhu's win against Wang Zhiyi is a significant achievement, especially considering her recent struggles with form and fitness. This victory not only propels her into the quarterfinals but also sends a strong message to her competitors that she remains a formidable force in the world of badminton.
