Newcastle United Nearing Deal for Forward to Fill Potential Void Left by Alexander Isak.

Newcastle United are reportedly on the verge of signing Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a club-record fee, a move that could signal the end of Alexander Isak's time at St. James' Park. The deal for the German U21 international is estimated to be around £65 million, potentially rising to £69 million with add-ons. This would surpass the £63 million Newcastle paid for Isak in 2022.

Woltemade, a 23-year-old striker, is considered one of Europe's most promising young talents. He impressed at the U-21 European Championship, finishing as the tournament's top scorer with six goals. In the 2024/25 season, he scored 12 goals in 28 appearances for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. Standing at 6ft 6in, Woltemade is noted for his stellar box presence and on-the-ball skills.

The potential arrival of Woltemade has fueled speculation about Isak's future at Newcastle. Isak has reportedly expressed his desire to leave the club, with Liverpool being a potential destination. Newcastle reportedly rejected an offer of £110 million from Liverpool for Isak and are said to be seeking a British record £150 million for the Swedish striker. Some reports suggest Isak has gone on strike and refused to train with the team. Newcastle directors have reportedly met with Isak to discuss his future, but no resolution has been reached.

Newcastle's pursuit of a new striker intensified after allowing Callum Wilson to leave on a free transfer to West Ham. The club also had bids rejected for other strikers, including Yoane Wissa from Brentford and Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves. Sky Sports reports that Newcastle made a £55 million bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen, which was rejected. Despite the rejection, Newcastle may propose a third offer for Strand Larsen. However, Newcastle are unlikely to continue pursuing Jorgen Strand Larsen given his similarities to Woltemade.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has acknowledged the need to strengthen his attacking options. With Isak's future uncertain and Wilson's departure, the arrival of Woltemade would provide a significant boost to Newcastle's forward line.

While Woltemade is viewed as a potential replacement for Isak, Newcastle would ideally like to keep both players. The club may also look to bring in another striker even if Woltemade signs. Other strikers Newcastle have been linked with include Artem Dovbyk, Dusan Vlahovic, and Alexander Sorloth.
