Arsenal has received an update on the expected return of key striker Kai Havertz, who recently underwent a minor surgical procedure on his knee. The German international sustained the injury during Arsenal's opening-weekend victory against Manchester United.

Following the injury, Havertz underwent assessments and specialist reviews, which confirmed the necessity for surgery. The procedure was successfully completed on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and Havertz will now begin his recovery and rehabilitation program.

Arsenal is optimistic that Havertz will be sidelined for weeks rather than months. This is a significantly shorter recovery period compared to his previous hamstring injury, which kept him out for several months between February and May of this year.

Havertz's absence was evident in Arsenal's recent 5-0 win against Leeds at the Emirates. In that game, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard also suffered injuries, adding to Arsenal's injury concerns. Saka is expected to be out for three to four weeks with a hamstring injury. The absence of Havertz has reportedly accelerated Arsenal's move to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for an initial fee of £60 million.

The 26-year-old forward's injury is a setback, especially considering he had just returned from a hamstring issue that plagued him last season. Despite the injury, Arsenal remains confident that Havertz will return relatively soon and play a key role in their pursuit of silverware this season.

In Havertz's absence, summer signing Viktor Gyokeres is currently the only recognized No. 9 available. The team is focused on supporting Havertz throughout his recovery to ensure his swift return to full fitness.

Manager Mikel Arteta is expected to provide a further update on Arsenal's injury situation, including Havertz's progress, during his press conference before the weekend clash with Liverpool. Arsenal faces Liverpool at Anfield, while Liverpool will be without Jeremie Frimpong, but are hopeful that Alexis Mac Allister will be fit for the match.
