Everton Women are heading into the 2025/2026 Women's Super League (WSL) season with a blend of optimism and realism. After finishing eighth last term, comfortably clear of relegation, the team appears a safe mid-table side. However, without the financial investment seen at other clubs due to uncertainty around the club's ownership, truly challenging for European qualification remains a distant prospect.

Key Players and New Signings

Despite a smaller budget than many rivals, Everton has been working smartly in the transfer market, adding pace to their attack with the arrival of Toni Payne and Melissa Lawley. Breaking quickly is essential to Everton's style of play, and these additions should help. Other notable acquisitions include three Japan internationals: forward Yuka Momiki, full-back Hikaru Kitagawa, and center-back Rion Ishikawa. The team also welcomes back Spain forward Inma Gabarro, who has shown impressive form in pre-season after recovering from an ACL injury.

Key players for Everton include Toni Payne, known for her pace and ball control. There are also high hopes for England youth international Issy Hobson and young player of last season, Martina Fernández, who made her switch from Barcelona permanent this summer.

Off-field Changes

A significant change is the team's move to Goodison Park, marking their first season at the iconic stadium. In addition, Everton will play a fixture at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, hosting Manchester United on October 12. These moves aim to attract more fans and boost the profile of the women's side. Also, the club sold the women's team to Roundhouse Capital Holdings, allowing the team to gain minority investment.

Manager and Coaching Staff

Brian Sørensen remains at the helm as manager, making him the second-longest-serving manager in the WSL. Jennifer Foster joined Everton as a Women's Senior Team Coach in February 2025, bringing experience from Leicester City and Bristol City. Sørensen expressed his delight at Foster's arrival, highlighting her wealth of experience.

Season Outlook

The opening match of the 2025/26 season is a Merseyside derby away at Anfield, broadcast live on Sky Sports. Other key fixtures include Tottenham Hotspur as the first visitors to Goodison Park, and a home clash against newly-promoted London City Lionesses. A top-half finish is a realistic aim for Everton, and they will certainly want to improve on last season’s performance.

While a title challenge may be out of reach, Everton is focused on building a competitive team and solidifying their position in the WSL. With new signings, returning players, and a dedicated coaching staff, the club is striving for an enjoyable and successful campaign.
