PV Sindhu's quest for a record-equaling sixth medal at the BWF World Championships came to an end in Paris on Friday, August 29, 2025, after a quarterfinal defeat against Indonesia's Putri Kusuma Wardani. The Indian shuttler lost the hard-fought battle with a score of 14-21, 21-13, 16-21.

Sindhu's journey to the quarterfinals included a stunning victory over world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi of China in the round of 16. Sindhu, ranked 15th in the world, displayed a vintage performance, dispatching Wang Zhiyi in straight games 21-19, 21-15 in 48 minutes. She showcased great control and attacking intent, utilizing her trademark smashes and sharp net play. After the match against Wang Zhiyi, Sindhu expressed her determination to secure a sixth World Championships medal.

In the quarterfinal match against Wardani, Sindhu lost the first game 14-21. However, she bounced back in the second game, dominating Wardani to win 21-13. In the third and deciding game, Wardani managed to regain her composure and secured a 21-16 victory, ending Sindhu's hopes of progressing further in the tournament. Throughout the match, Wardani displayed deceptive shots, forcing Sindhu to cover a lot of ground. Sindhu responded with cross-court shots to buy herself time. In the end, Sindhu faltered with unforced errors.

Despite the loss, Sindhu's performance at the World Championships was commendable, especially her victory over Wang Zhiyi. This win indicated a return to form for the Indian player, who had been struggling with consistency and early exits in recent tournaments.

Other Indian players also participated in the BWF World Championships 2025. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals in the men's doubles. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also reached the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles, but lost to their Malaysian opponents. Loh Kean Yew, the 2021 world champion, also faced a shocking defeat in the quarter-finals against Victor Lai of Canada.
