India has officially submitted its bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, proposing Ahmedabad as the host city. The formal bid was presented to the Commonwealth Sport (the Commonwealth Games Federation) by a delegation that included members of the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Government of Gujarat. This bid marks a significant step in India's ambition to bring the multi-sport event back to the country after two decades. India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

The selection of Ahmedabad as the proposed host city is due to its advanced sporting infrastructure and vibrant sports culture. Ahmedabad is also a front-runner for the 2036 Olympic Games, with ongoing infrastructure upgrades supporting this goal.

India's bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games marks the centenary edition of the Games. Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi stated that India's Games will be based on the ancient principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', meaning "the world is one family," promoting unity and human connection. The principle of 'Atithi Devo Bhava', meaning "the guest is divine," will guide the planning for all stakeholders visiting India for the Games.

Dr. PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association and Commonwealth Games Association (India), stated that this bid represents the aspirations of the entire nation. She added that the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will showcase India's sporting capabilities and the values of friendship, respect, and inclusivity.

The Indian Olympic Association aims to include all medal-winning disciplines like shooting, wrestling, and archery. Traditional Indian sports such as kabaddi and kho kho are also expected to feature.

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the submission of India's bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This includes signing the Host Collaboration Agreement and providing necessary guarantees and financial support to the Gujarat government if the bid is successful. The Indian Olympic Association completed the formalities after submitting an Expression of Interest in March. The bid submission deadline is August 31, with the final decision expected in November.

India's ambition to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games aligns with its long-term goal of becoming a leading sporting nation. Hosting mega-events serves as catalysts for wider participation in sport, infrastructure development, and international collaboration.

The delegation expressed confidence that the 2030 Commonwealth Games in India will not only mark a century of the Commonwealth Games but also anchor the future, creating a foundation that could define the next century of the Commonwealth Sport movement.
