Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of finalizing a deal with Real Betis for the permanent transfer of winger Antony. This move brings an end to Antony's largely unsuccessful tenure at Old Trafford, a period that saw him become the second most expensive player in the club's history.

The transfer marks a significant financial loss for Manchester United, who originally acquired Antony from Ajax in 2022 for a staggering £85 million. Despite high expectations, the Brazilian winger struggled to consistently replicate his Eredivisie form in the Premier League. In 96 appearances for the Red Devils, Antony managed just 12 goals and five assists. Last season, he only played 135 minutes in the Premier League before being loaned to Real Betis in January.

During his loan spell in Spain, Antony showed glimpses of his potential, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 26 games for the La Liga side. His performances earned him praise and made him a fan favorite, sparking Real Betis's interest in a permanent deal. Antony himself was reportedly keen on returning to Spain, having enjoyed his time with Betis. He apparently "reiterated his stance that he will join no other club than Real Betis".

Real Betis's financial constraints initially posed a challenge to completing the transfer. However, a solution appears to have been reached, with Betis reportedly submitting a unique offer to purchase 50% of the player's rights for approximately £22 million. This arrangement would allow United to retain a 50% sell-on clause, potentially earning them more money in the future if Betis decides to buy Antony outright.

While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, it is expected to be significantly lower than the £85 million United initially paid for Antony. This represents a considerable loss for the club, highlighting the challenges they have faced in the transfer market in recent years. Despite the financial setback, United may view this as a positive step towards streamlining their squad and recouping some value from a player who no longer features in their plans.

The departure of Antony is part of a broader restructuring effort at Manchester United, with several other players potentially on their way out. Alejandro Garnacho is reportedly undergoing a medical at Chelsea ahead of a £40 million transfer. Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are also rumored to be available for transfer. Furthermore, there are reports of interest from other clubs in Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, although United are expected to resist letting Mainoo leave.

These potential departures indicate a significant overhaul of the Manchester United squad under the guidance of manager Ruben Amorim. Amorim has apparently signaled that Antony had no role in his long-term project at Old Trafford. While there have been reports questioning Amorim's methods, the club seems determined to back him in reshaping the team to compete for major honors.
