West Bromwich Albion secured a significant victory against Stoke City, with Nat Phillips' early goal proving to be the difference. The win not only gave West Brom a lift after a turbulent week but also brought an end to Stoke's perfect start to the Championship season.

The match took place at the Bet365 Stadium, where a sizable crowd had gathered, anticipating Stoke to continue their winning streak. However, West Brom, under the guidance of head coach Ryan Mason, who was serving a touchline suspension, had other plans. Despite the absence of key players Tom Fellows and Darnell Furlong, who recently departed to Southampton and Ipswich respectively, West Brom displayed a determined performance.

West Brom started the game strongly, with Jed Wallace testing the Stoke defense early on. A dangerous cross from Mikey Johnston nearly resulted in a goal when Stoke's goalkeeper, Viktor Johansson, fumbled the catch. The pressure eventually paid off in the 11th minute when Phillips capitalized on a mistake by Johansson, who dropped Alex Mowatt's corner, allowing the defender to score his first goal for the club.

Stoke attempted to respond, with Million Manhoef forcing a save from West Brom's goalkeeper, Josh Griffiths, before halftime. After the break, Divin Mubama's deflected shot struck the post, highlighting Stoke's persistent efforts to equalize.

The game became increasingly tense, with a melee erupting around the hour mark after Bae Jun-ho's foul on Johnston. Isaac Price and Junior Tchamadeu received yellow cards as a result of the altercation. West Brom also had opportunities to extend their lead, with Aune Heggebo coming close.

Ultimately, West Brom's defense held firm, securing a 1-0 victory and maintaining their own unbeaten start to the season. The introduction of Toby Collyer provided West Brom with fresh energy in midfield, helping them to thwart Stoke's attacks. This victory allows West Brom to leapfrog Stoke in the league table.
