Erik ten Hag is facing increased pressure at Bayer Leverkusen after his team surrendered a two-goal lead against a 10-man Werder Bremen, resulting in a 3-3 draw. This result means that Leverkusen has yet to secure a win in the Bundesliga this season.

Leverkusen started strong, with Patrik Schick scoring early in the 5th minute, followed by a goal from debutant Malik Tillman in the 35th minute. Werder Bremen managed to pull one back just before halftime with a penalty converted by Romano Schmid. The second half appeared to swing in Leverkusen's favor when Niklas Stark of Bremen received a second yellow card in the 63rd minute, leading to another penalty which Schick converted, restoring Leverkusen's two-goal advantage.

Despite being down to 10 men, Werder Bremen mounted a remarkable comeback. Isaac Schmidt scored in the 67th minute after capitalizing on a misjudgment by Leverkusen's goalkeeper Mark Flekken. In the final moments of the game, Karim Coulibaly, making his first start, scored a dramatic equalizer to secure a point for Bremen. Coulibaly's goal in the 94th minute marked his first Bundesliga goal and made him Bremen's youngest goalscorer in the league's history at 18 years and 99 days.

The pressure is mounting on Erik ten Hag, especially after an earlier defeat to Hoffenheim. Concerns have been raised about the team's lack of a clear game plan and the absence of Ten Hag's trademark pressing and counter-pressing strategies. Some have also criticized Ten Hag's tactical decisions, such as playing new signing Aleix Garcia out of position.

Ten Hag has acknowledged the need for improvement but has also pointed out the significant squad overhaul that occurred over the summer, with key players like Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, Jeremie Frimpong, and Jonathan Tah leaving the club. Leverkusen has brought in 15 new players to compensate for these departures.

Despite the new signings, Ten Hag's public request for even more additions to the squad was reportedly not well-received internally. A German newspaper, BILD, reports that Ten Hag's position could become unstable if Leverkusen suffers another setback. The team is expected to compete with the best in the Bundesliga, and a poor start to the season may lead to questions about Ten Hag's leadership.

Ten Hag himself has acknowledged the pressure, stating, "Pressure is always there and we must win. That's clear". He has also said, "I am no Harry Potter. We will work to take a step forward". Leverkusen will need to quickly address their defensive vulnerabilities and find a way to secure victories to alleviate the growing pressure on their manager.
