Leeds United and Newcastle United played to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road on August 30, 2025, in a tightly contested Premier League match where neither side could find the breakthrough. The result sees Leeds in 10th position. Newcastle are in 15th and still searching for their first win of the season.

The match was described as cagey, with few clear-cut chances for either team. Leeds United, playing at home, aimed to take the initiative early, utilizing the speed of Giacomo Gnonto and James on the wings. However, Newcastle's organized defense largely restricted Leeds to long-range efforts. Stach had one of the better attempts from distance for Leeds, but it narrowly missed the target.

Newcastle's most promising opportunity in the first half came from Osula, whose shot was blocked by Gudmundsson. Livramento and Murphy delivered crosses into dangerous areas, but Newcastle struggled to convert these into clear chances, leaving Leeds' goalkeeper, Pope, relatively untroubled.

The second half mirrored the first, with both teams struggling to create clear chances. Leeds tried to utilize the pace of Calvert-Lewin, who was set up by Harrison late in the game. In the 75th minute, Harrison delivered a well-weighted pass over the Newcastle defense, putting Calvert-Lewin in a one-on-one situation with Pope. However, Calvert-Lewin's first touch was too heavy, allowing Pope to intervene and maintain the stalemate. Bogle found Calvert-Lewin in space again just before the final whistle, but Pope made a crucial near-post save. Newcastle's wide players and set-piece opportunities showed glimpses of promise. Osula's blocked effort remained their most significant chance.

Leeds had a slight edge in expected goals, with 0.59 compared to Newcastle's 0.42, mainly due to hopeful long-range efforts from Stach. In the 79th minute, there was a delay in the match due to an injury to Leeds United's Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Following the match, Leeds is scheduled to play Fulham on September 13. Newcastle will face Wolves after the international break.

The match was dedicated to childhood cancer awareness by Leeds United, supporting The Bradley Lowery Foundation.
