Despite a mixed start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola remains confident that his team will have a successful year. The team's performance so far has been inconsistent, with a dominant 4-0 victory over Wolves followed by a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham. This inconsistency, along with results from the Club World Cup, has led to questions about the team's ability to maintain the high standards they have set in previous seasons.

Currently, Manchester City sits 6th in the Premier League table, with one win and one loss in their first two games. Their home form has been poor, with one loss, while their away form is excellent, with one win.

Guardiola, however, is not overly concerned with the early setbacks. Speaking ahead of City's recent match against Brighton, he conveyed optimism and trust in his squad. "That (consistency) is the target, but it's one game at a time," Guardiola stated, emphasizing the long-term perspective required in a league campaign. He acknowledged that people might doubt the team after recent performances but affirmed his belief that they are on track for a good season.

While Guardiola acknowledges that the current team may not be at the same level as his record-breaking "Centurions" team or the one that secured a domestic treble, he sees promising signs. "I have seen things I recognise for when you make a good season," he noted. He believes the team possesses the core principles necessary for success, even if it doesn't guarantee winning titles.

Guardiola's unwavering belief in his team's style of play remains a key factor in his optimism. Despite tactical evolutions in the game, he intends to stick to his core principles. He emphasized his commitment to an attacking style, built on quick transitions and possession-based football. "Never, ever will I change my beliefs in the way we are going to play," Guardiola declared, reinforcing his dedication to his footballing philosophy.

Several factors could influence Manchester City's performance as the season progresses. Summer signing Rayan Ait-Nouri is available after recovering from a knock. Guardiola also faces decisions regarding his goalkeepers, with youngster James Trafford having had a mixed outing against Tottenham. The management of Rodri's playing time will also be crucial, considering his recent return from injury.

Looking ahead, Manchester City's upcoming fixtures include a match against Brighton in August, followed by Champions League and Premier League games in October. These matches will provide further indications of the team's progress and ability to compete at the highest level.

Despite the mixed results and challenges, Pep Guardiola's confidence suggests that Manchester City remains a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League. His focus on long-term development, commitment to his footballing principles, and belief in his players provide a foundation for a potentially successful season.
