The Philadelphia Flyers have solidified their belief in defenseman Cam York by signing him to a five-year contract extension worth $25.75 million, carrying an annual average value (AAV) of $5.15 million. This deal locks in York, a key component of the Flyers' blue line, through the 2029-30 NHL season. The extension signifies the Flyers' commitment to York as a core piece of their long-term plans and their ongoing effort to transition from a rebuilding phase to playoff contention.

General Manager Danny Briere expressed his confidence in York's development and leadership potential. "Cam has been a workhorse for our team over the last few seasons," Briere stated. "We're excited by his development and look forward to his continued growth and emergence as a young leader within our group".

York, drafted 14th overall by the Flyers in 2019, has played his entire NHL career in Philadelphia. In 235 career games, the 25-year-old has accumulated 19 goals and 58 assists for a total of 77 points, while averaging nearly 21 minutes of ice time per game. In the 2023-24 season, York played all 82 games, contributing 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points. During the 2024-25 season, he played 66 games, recording 4 goals and 13 assists.

The Flyers' decision to extend York's contract avoids the arbitration process, as he was a restricted free agent (RFA) eligible for arbitration this offseason. The contract includes no trade protection. With the NHL's salary cap projected to increase significantly, potentially reaching $113.5 million by the 2027-28 season, York's $5.15 million AAV could prove to be a valuable asset for the team in the long run.

This signing is part of a broader effort by the Flyers to retool their roster and compete for a Stanley Cup Playoff berth. Recent acquisitions of players like Trevor Zegras, Christian Dvorak, and Dan Vladar, along with the addition of Rick Tocchet as head coach, demonstrate the organization's commitment to improving the team's performance.

York's extension addresses the Flyers' last major piece of offseason business and underscores their faith in his ability to bolster the team's blue line for years to come.
