Rohit Sharma, the veteran Indian cricketer, is making headlines as he gears up for a potential return to international cricket. Following a break since the IPL 2025 season, Sharma is reportedly looking fitter and sharper, sparking excitement among fans.

Sharma recently underwent a mandatory pre-season fitness test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. This marks the first time he has faced such a test since retiring from Test cricket in May. The fitness assessment included the Yo-Yo test and a Dexa Scan to assess bone density. He has successfully cleared the pre-season fitness test. Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah also cleared the fitness parameters.

Adding to the anticipation, Sharma has been training with Abhishek Nayar, a former assistant coach for the Indian team. Nayar shared a picture of Sharma in the gym, accompanied by the caption "Let it begin," further fueling speculation about Sharma's preparation for upcoming tournaments.

While Sharma retired from T20Is after leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup last year, and subsequently from Test cricket before the series against England, his focus seems to be firmly set on the One Day International format. There is a possibility that he will tour Australia for an ODI series in October. To prepare for the tour, he may participate in a three-match series for India A against Australia A in Kanpur.

Notably, there was speculation that Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, might play for India A against Australia A in a three-match One-Day series in Kanpur. This series could serve as crucial preparation for the ODI series in Australia, scheduled to begin in Perth on October 19.

According to reports, Rohit Sharma will report to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence on September 13 for further fitness assessments, including the newly-introduced Bronco Test. He will also practice there in preparation for the Australia white-ball tour in November.

Sharma's last competitive match was in June for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, while his most recent India appearance was the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in March 2025. In that match, he scored 76 runs and was named Player of the Match.

As Sharma prepares for a potential comeback, fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the international stage, particularly with the 50-over World Cup on the horizon. His fitness and performance in the upcoming series will be crucial in determining his role in the team's future plans.
