Antony's time at Manchester United is coming to an end, with Real Betis securing a permanent transfer for the Brazilian winger in a deal worth €25 million. The move marks a significant loss for United, who initially signed Antony from Ajax in 2022 for a reported £86 million.

After a largely disappointing spell at Old Trafford, where he scored just 12 goals in 96 appearances, Antony spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis. During his loan spell, he rediscovered some of his form, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances. His performances helped Betis reach the UEFA Conference League final and finish sixth in La Liga.

Real Betis's interest in bringing Antony back to the club has been persistent throughout the summer transfer window. While Betis initially sought another loan arrangement, Manchester United were only interested in a permanent deal. Negotiations between the two clubs were ongoing, with some reports suggesting a deal had been agreed in principle, only for Betis to withdraw their offer due to financial concerns.

A key sticking point in the negotiations was Antony's salary. To facilitate the move, the Brazilian winger has agreed to take a significant pay cut. It was reported that Antony was seeking compensation for the shortfall in wages, but ultimately, Manchester United will not be making any payments to the player.

The final agreement is structured as a €22 million fixed fee, with an additional €3 million in potential add-ons. Manchester United will also retain a 50% sell-on clause, entitling them to half of any profit Betis makes on a future transfer of the player.

Antony's departure is part of a wider clear-out at Manchester United, with other players like Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford also moving on. The club is looking to streamline its squad and comply with financial regulations.

For Antony, the move represents a fresh start at a club where he enjoyed a successful loan spell. He will be hoping to build on his performances from last season and become a key player for Manuel Pellegrini's side. Real Betis, however, are unlikely to make further additions to the squad due to the cost of the transfer.
