Nicolas Jackson's protracted transfer saga with Chelsea has reached its conclusion, with the striker set to join Bayern Munich in a deal worth over £70 million. After a turbulent 48 hours that saw the deal collapse and then resurrected, the 24-year-old will move to the Bundesliga champions on an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

The transfer initially hit a snag when Chelsea halted the deal due to a hamstring injury sustained by Liam Delap in their win against Fulham. With Christopher Nkunku also having moved to AC Milan, this left Joao Pedro as the club's only fit number nine. Chelsea's decision to pull the plug on the Jackson deal left the player "furious", as he had already traveled to Germany to finalize the move. Jackson remained in Munich, determined to complete the transfer.

Ultimately, Chelsea and Bayern Munich renegotiated the terms, with the German club agreeing to an obligation to buy Jackson. Bayern will pay an increased loan fee of £14.2 million, and the obligation to buy stands at £56.2 million. Jackson has reportedly agreed to personal terms and will sign a five-year contract with Bayern.

The agreement marks the end of a frustrating period for Jackson, who has found himself out of favor at Chelsea following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. He has not made a single appearance for the club this season. Jackson's departure also creates a headache for Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who is now short on options in the striker position. To mitigate this, Chelsea have recalled Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland.

Jackson joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 from Villarreal. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he scored 30 goals and provided 12 assists in 81 appearances, helping the Blues win the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup. At Bayern Munich, Jackson will join forces with Harry Kane.
