Piero Hincapie's arrival at Arsenal has been the major talking point of a busy deadline day for the Gunners. While several players are heading out of the Emirates, the Ecuadorian center-back is the headline acquisition, arriving from Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has been busy this summer, and Hincapie represents another shrewd piece of business. Berta, who joined Arsenal after a successful spell at Atletico Madrid, has overseen a significant overhaul of the squad, investing around £250 million in new talent. The Gunners have been keen to strengthen their defensive options, and the arrival of the 23-year-old Hincapie adds quality and versatility to the backline. Berta has been instrumental in getting deals done swiftly, and Hincapie's signing is a testament to his efficiency.

The deal for Hincapie is structured as a season-long loan with an option to buy for £45 million. Arsenal were able to submit all formal documents for his switch within the window. Hincapie completed his medical at London Colney.

Hincapie's arrival has facilitated the departure of Jakub Kiwior, who is set to join Porto. Kiwior's move is initially a loan, but it will become a permanent deal worth up to £23.4 million with bonuses. Fans view Hincapie as a significant upgrade, and the deal is considered excellent business by the club.

Several other players are also expected to leave Arsenal on deadline day. Fabio Vieira is close to joining Hamburg on loan with an option to buy. Albert Sambi Lokonga is also set to move to Hamburg permanently. Reiss Nelson is another player likely to depart, with Brentford, Fulham and Crystal Palace interested.

Despite the 7 PM BST deadline, Arsenal could still finalize deals, thanks to a Premier League rule that allows clubs to submit a deal sheet to gain extra time. This provides them with additional time to complete paperwork and announce signings.

Andrea Berta's impact at Arsenal has been significant, with the club showing ambition in the transfer market. The Gunners are determined to win a trophy, having last won the FA Cup in 2020. The addition of Hincapie, along with other signings, demonstrates their commitment to challenging for major honors. Berta has brought in players who can make a crucial difference, and the team is aiming to end their run of finishing second in the Premier League.
