In a stunning turn of events on deadline day, Liverpool have reportedly completed the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British record transfer fee of £125 million. The deal, which has been confirmed by multiple sources, sees Isak heading to Anfield on a six-year contract.

The transfer fee eclipses the previous British record held by Liverpool themselves, when they signed Florian Wirtz earlier in the summer for £116 million. Isak's arrival marks the culmination of a summer-long pursuit by the Reds, who had an initial bid of £110 million rejected by Newcastle at the start of August.

Isak, who will wear the number 9 shirt, expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League champions and is eager to start contributing to the team's success. "This is a fantastic club with a rich history and I'm incredibly proud to be a part of it," he stated in his first interview as a Liverpool player. "I'm looking forward to meeting my new teammates and working hard to achieve great things together."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot also commented on the signing, highlighting Isak's unique qualities and the impact he expects the striker to have on the team. "Alexander is a dynamic and versatile forward with exceptional talent," said Slot. "He has a proven track record of scoring goals and we believe he will be a valuable addition to our squad."

The move comes after what has been described as a summer-long saga at St. James' Park, which reportedly culminated in strike action from the player to force the transfer. Isak apparently made it clear that he wanted a move to Anfield. He allegedly felt promises were broken and that his relationship with Newcastle had deteriorated to a point where a transfer was in everyone's best interest.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have moved quickly to secure a replacement for Isak, completing the signing of German striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a reported fee of up to £69 million. They have also reportedly agreed a £55 million deal for Brentford's Yoane Wissa.

The Isak transfer sees Liverpool's spending for the summer approach nearly €500 million, making them the highest-spending club in Europe this transfer window. The club has already brought in several other high-profile players, including Florian Wirtz. These acquisitions demonstrate the club's ambition to maintain their dominance in the Premier League and compete for major trophies in Europe.

However, due to a sell-on clause, Newcastle will only receive £112.5 million of the £125 million fee, with Real Sociedad, Isak's former club, receiving the remaining £12.5 million. Also, Isak will reportedly miss out on a loyalty payment from Newcastle as the Magpies negotiated it out of his move to Anfield.

In other Liverpool transfer news, a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is reportedly in jeopardy.
