Pakistani batter Asif Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday, September 1, 2025, ending his five-year journey with the national team. The right-handed batter, known for his aggressive middle-order hitting, revealed his decision via a heartfelt message on Instagram, calling his time in the Pakistan jersey the "proudest chapter" of his life.

Ali made his international debut in 2018 and played his last match against Bangladesh in October 2023 during the Asian Games. Throughout his international career, he played 58 T20Is and 21 ODIs, scoring a total of 959 runs with three half-centuries. He was a part of the Pakistan squads for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022.

In his message, Asif thanked his teammates, coaches, fans, friends, and family for their unwavering support throughout his career. He especially acknowledged the strength he received from his family and friends during the loss of his daughter during the 2021 World Cup.

Asif Ali will be remembered for his impactful performances, particularly during the 2021 T20 World Cup, where he played a crucial role in Pakistan's journey to the semi-finals. His memorable innings against New Zealand and Afghanistan helped propel Pakistan into the semi-finals. Against Afghanistan, he smashed four sixes in the 19th over off Karim Janat, securing a thrilling victory in a tricky 148-run chase. He also contributed a handy 27 runs off 12 balls against New Zealand.

Despite retiring from international cricket, Asif Ali has confirmed that he will continue to play domestic cricket and franchise leagues around the world.
