The Toronto Maple Leafs have secured goaltender Dennis Hildeby with a three-year contract extension. The announcement, made on Tuesday, solidifies Hildeby's future with the organization.

The contract carries an average annual value of $841,667. The structure of the deal includes a two-way contract for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons, transitioning to a one-way contract in 2027-28. This suggests the Maple Leafs see a potential full-time NHL role for Hildeby in the future.

Hildeby, 24, was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft. He was the last remaining restricted free agent (RFA) on the team.

So far, Hildeby has played in six NHL games, recording a 3-3-0 record with a .872 save percentage and a 3.33 goals-against average, all during the 2024-25 season. At the AHL level with the Toronto Marlies, he has a 37-21-11 record in 73 games, along with a 2.53 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage, and six shutouts. Last season with the Marlies, Hildeby went 16-9-4 with a 2.55 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage, and two shutouts in 30 games.

Hildeby's performance in the AHL suggests he is close to becoming a full-time NHL player. With Anthony Stolarz potentially becoming an unrestricted free agent after this season, the timing of Hildeby's one-way contract in 2027-28 could open the door for a more significant role.
