Following Alexander Isak's record-breaking £125 million move to Liverpool from Newcastle United, Sweden's national team manager, Jon Dahl Tomasson, has provided an update on the striker's fitness. The transfer, a British record, was finalized late on deadline day after weeks of speculation and negotiations.

Tomasson acknowledged that Isak is currently not at his peak physical condition. The 25-year-old forward missed Newcastle's pre-season training and matches after going on strike to push for the Liverpool transfer. He trained alone during this period, including spending time at his former club Real Sociedad.

"His form is what I said the other day: normally you do a pre-season, you play plenty of games, you have plenty of training. That's not the case," Tomasson told Sky Sports News. He added, "So is he able to play ninety minutes, of course not. Are we going to do stupid things with Alex, no, we're not going to do any stupid things with him. We of course have a plan but he's smiling and he's happy to be here".

Isak himself has admitted that his disrupted summer will require careful management as he integrates into the Liverpool squad. "Yeah, of course, I think that's the ambition," Isak said regarding the possibility of featuring against Burnley on September 14. "However, I've had a tricky summer where I haven't played any games and I've had restricted training, so I think that's one to judge and to analyse where I am at and how much I am ready to give". He added, "But I certainly want to play as soon as possible".

Despite the lack of match sharpness, Tomasson has included Isak in the Sweden squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Sweden will face Slovenia on September 5 and Kosovo on September 8. Isak's participation in these matches will provide an opportunity to improve his fitness, but the Liverpool coaching staff will need to carefully assess his condition upon his return.

Isak's move to Liverpool marks a significant step in his career. He has expressed his excitement about joining the club and his desire to win trophies. "I want to win everything," Isak said. "I feel like this is the next step for me in my career. I'm super-happy that I've been given this chance and I'm very motivated to do something well with it".

Tomasson also highlighted Isak's positive attitude and professionalism. "Alex is a very professional player, a strong character, and he has worked hard. He is a game changer," Tomasson said. "I have spoken to him several times; mentally, he is strong".

Isak's arrival at Liverpool completes a significant attacking rebuild for the club. He joins Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike as new additions to the squad. Liverpool supporters are eager to see Isak in action, and his debut is highly anticipated. However, his fitness will need to be carefully managed to ensure he can perform at his best.

The Sweden manager also mentioned that Isak was "so happy to be here" after joining up with his international teammates, which "tells us a lot". He also lauded Isak's character and said that the player is in a "good mental place".
