Naomi Osaka battled her way into the US Open semi-finals with a straight-sets victory over Karolina Muchova. The 23rd-seeded Japanese star defeated the Czech 11th seed 6-4, 7-6 (3) in just under two hours. This marks Osaka's first US Open semi-final appearance in five years.

Osaka, a two-time US Open champion, displayed composure and resilience throughout the match. Muchova, who was aiming for her third consecutive semi-final appearance in New York, proved to be a tough opponent.

The first set was tightly contested, with both players holding serve effectively. Osaka managed to secure a crucial break to take a 5-4 lead. Despite facing three set points, Muchova saved one with an ace, but ultimately faltered, handing Osaka the first set.

Muchova took a medical timeout after the first set, receiving treatment on her left thigh. Despite the apparent injury, she returned with renewed determination, breaking Osaka early in the second set. However, Osaka responded immediately, breaking back with a forehand winner.

Although Muchova's movement seemed restricted, she continued to challenge Osaka with sharp volleys and creative play. She even managed to gain a 5-4 lead in the second set. However, Osaka held her nerve, regained control, and forced a tiebreak.

In the tiebreak, Osaka took charge, showcasing a combination of patience and aggression. She eventually sealed the victory, winning the tiebreak 7-3.

Osaka expressed her excitement about returning to the US Open semi-finals. She acknowledged Muchova's fighting spirit and emphasized the importance of staying composed throughout the match.

Osaka will now face eighth seed Amanda Anisimova in the semi-finals. Anisimova's impressive run to the semi-finals included a stunning victory over second seed Iga Swiatek. This will be a blockbuster clash. Anisimova is the first American woman since the Williams sisters in 2002 to reach Grand Slam semifinals on all three surfaces – clay, grass, and hard courts.

This semi-final appearance marks Osaka's deepest run in a Grand Slam since winning the Australian Open in 2021. After a lengthy maternity break, Osaka returned to the tour last season. Her performance at the US Open signals a strong resurgence on the sport's biggest stage. She also improved her record to 5-0 in Grand Slam quarter-final matches.
