At the Archery Worlds 2025 in Gwangju, Korea, India's Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav secured a silver medal in the compound mixed team final.
The pair reached the final after defeating Chang Cheng Wei and Huang I-Jou of Chinese Taipei with a score of 157-155. In the final, they faced the Netherlands' world number 1 pair, Mike Schloesser and Sanne De Laat. Ultimately, the Indian team had to settle for silver.
Earlier in the competition, Yadav shot a score of 709, including 26 inner ten's, to finish eighth in individual qualification. Vennam shot a score of 707 with 26 inner tens and was placed third in individual qualification.
The mixed team event saw Yadav and Vennam, who were placed fourth with a combined score of 1416, start strong with a 160-152 win over the German pair of Paolo Kunsch and Katharina Raab. They then defeated El Salvador's Roberto Hernandez and Sofia Paiz with a score of 157-153 to advance to the semi-final.
This is not the first time Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav have achieved success together. They won the title in the Central Florida World Cup Stage 1 earlier in the year. In July 2025, they set a new mixed team world record at the Archery World Cup in Madrid, scoring 1431 points and surpassing the previous record of 1429. They also secured their spots on India's team for the Gwangju 2025 World Archery Championships. In April 2025, they won a gold medal in the team event at the first stage of the Archer World Cup in Auburndale, USA, defeating Chinese Taipei in the final.
Rishabh Yadav has also achieved individual success, winning a bronze medal at the World Archery Youth Championships in 2021. He secured his first World Cup individual medal, a bronze, in Shanghai in May 2025.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam is an accomplished archer with a bronze medal from the 2023 World Archery Championships in Berlin, where she also won a gold medal in the women's compound team event.
The Indian team coach, Jiwanjot Singh Teja, noted the windy conditions in Gwangju and praised Yadav and Vennam for maintaining their composure and carrying their momentum from earlier World Cups.
The World Archery Championships have been held biennially since the 1950s. India has won 15 medals in the competition, including three gold, nine silver, and three bronze. In the last edition in 2023, India finished first.
