In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Indian Men's Hockey team emerged victorious at the Asia Cup 2025, defeating South Korea 4-1 in the final held in Rajgir, Bihar. This win marks India's fourth Asia Cup title and their first in eight years. More importantly, it secures their direct qualification for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, which will be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

India's road to the final was marked by dominant performances. They topped Pool A with three straight wins before navigating the Super 4s stage. A commanding 7-0 victory against China in their final Super 4s match set up the summit clash with defending champions South Korea.

The final saw India take an early lead, with Sukhjeet Singh scoring in the first minute. Dilpreet Singh extended the lead before halftime, capitalizing on a rebound from Harmanpreet Singh's penalty corner. Despite Jugraj Singh missing a penalty stroke, India maintained relentless pressure. In the second half, Dilpreet added another goal, securing his "Player of the Match" award. Amit Rohidas then added the finishing touch, sealing the 4-1 victory. Son Dain scored a consolation goal for Korea in the final quarter.

Throughout the tournament, captain Harmanpreet Singh played a crucial role, orchestrating India's attacks with his precise aerial balls and cross-field passes. His ability to control the game's tempo and create opportunities for his teammates was instrumental in India's success. Other players who made significant contributions include Dilpreet Singh, Shilanand Lakra, Mandeep Singh, Raj Kumar Pal, Abhishek, and Sukhjeet Singh.

Coach Craig Fulton expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance throughout the tournament. He highlighted the team's strong start against China, which set the tone for their dominant run. He also acknowledged the challenges posed by South Korea, who held India to a 2-2 draw in the Super 4s stage.

With the Asia Cup title and a secured spot in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, the Indian team has a major boost. This victory provides a platform to build upon as they prepare to compete on the global stage in 2026. The team will aim to carry forward the momentum and continue to improve their game in the lead-up to the World Cup.

The FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 will feature 16 teams, including co-hosts Belgium and the Netherlands. Australia and Spain qualified through the FIH Pro League. India, as the Asia Cup winner, secures another spot. The remaining teams will qualify through continental championships in Africa, Europe, Oceania, and Pan America, as well as through the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers in 2026.
