In a dominant display of skill and teamwork, India defeated South Korea 4-1 to clinch the Asia Cup Hockey tournament in Rajgir, Bihar on September 7, 2025. This victory marks India's fourth Asia Cup title and secures their place in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, which will be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The match was a showcase of India's attacking prowess, with Sukhjeet Singh drawing first blood in the opening minute. Dilpreet Singh further solidified India's lead with two well-executed goals. Amit Rohidas also added his name to the scoresheet, contributing to the commanding 4-1 victory. Korea managed a consolation goal in the final quarter through Son Dain.

India's journey to the final was marked by dominant performances throughout the tournament. In the Super 4s stage, they displayed their attacking strength with a commanding 7-0 victory over China. In the preliminary round, India stormed through Pool A with three straight wins, joining Malaysia from Pool B as the two unbeaten teams in the group stage. They edged China 4-3, secured a 3-2 victory over Japan, and crushed Kazakhstan 15-0.

Dilpreet Singh was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, which included two goals and a penalty corner. He reflected on the team's focus and execution, stating, "From day one, our main goal was to take a shot, convert it into a PC when entering the circle. Today that worked out perfectly for us".

This triumph signifies India's return to continental supremacy in hockey after eight years, with their last Asia Cup title coming in 2017. By winning the Asia Cup, India has earned an automatic qualification for the FIH Hockey World Cup next year. The team displayed relentless pressure throughout the game, capitalizing on their scoring opportunities. Although Jugraj Singh missed a penalty stroke, it did not deter the team. India's ability to learn from their mistakes was evident, as they showcased improved stick skills and tactical awareness.

With the Asia Cup victory, India now looks forward to the Hockey World Cup in Netherlands and Belgium.
