England manager Thomas Tuchel has issued a warning to his squad ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Serbia, emphasizing the need to be prepared for a physical and emotionally charged encounter. The Three Lions are set to face Serbia in Belgrade on Tuesday, and Tuchel is anticipating a hostile atmosphere and a tough challenge from their opponents.

Currently, England leads Group K with 12 points from four matches, while Serbia trails in second place with seven points but with a game in hand. Tuchel is urging his team to "step up" and demonstrate their strength against their closest rivals in the group. He acknowledges that the match in Belgrade is expected to be the team's toughest assignment in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Tuchel's concerns extend beyond the quality of the Serbian team. He has also cautioned his players about the potential for a disruptive atmosphere, including the risk of yellow and red cards. A reduced capacity at the Rajko Mitic Stadium, with approximately 8,100 seats closed due to previous fan behavior, is expected to create an intense environment. FIFA has also fined the Football Association of Serbia in the past for discriminatory and racist abuse.

The England manager is also preparing his team for a direct and physical style of play from Serbia, highlighting their aerial threat and the presence of tall, physical strikers. He stressed the importance of adapting to these challenges and overcoming adversity. Tuchel has hinted at incorporating "old-fashioned qualities" such as more aerial play and long throws into England's strategy. He believes that these tactics could be particularly effective against Serbia's expected defensive formation.

Despite a less-than-convincing 2-0 victory against Andorra, Tuchel expressed confidence in his team's progress and their ability to secure a positive result in Belgrade. He has also suggested that the door remains open for players to prove themselves and earn a place in the squad. Tuchel said he felt the team's energy and attitude were right and has full trust that they will have a good game in Serbia.

Serbia's national team has faced challenges in the past, but they have also shown their potential. They have qualified for three of the last four World Cups, demonstrating their competitiveness on the international stage. However, their defensive vulnerabilities have sometimes undermined their progress.

In their previous encounter at Euro 2024, England secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Serbia. Jude Bellingham's early goal proved to be the difference in a tightly contested match.

Looking ahead to Tuesday's match, Tuchel is determined to see his team make another step towards World Cup qualification. He recognizes the importance of clarity in their attacking and defending strategies and is confident that intensity and accuracy will follow. Tuchel's message to his players is clear: be prepared for a tough, physical, and emotional battle against a strong Serbian side.
