India's badminton stars, led by the dynamic men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and the experienced P.V. Sindhu, are set to compete at the Hong Kong Open 2025. The tournament, officially named the Li-Ning Hong Kong Open 2025, is a Super 500 event on the BWF World Tour and will take place at the Hong Kong Coliseum from September 9 to 14, 2025. The total prize money for the tournament is US$500,000.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, currently ranked No. 3 in the world, will be leading India's challenge after their recent bronze medal win at the World Championships. The duo has been consistent performers this season, reaching several semi-finals on the BWF Tour, including events in India, Malaysia, China, and Singapore. As the eighth seeds, they will begin their Hong Kong Open campaign against Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin from Chinese Taipei. Previously, at the China Open 2025, Satwik and Chirag suffered a semi-final exit after losing to Malaysia's Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia. Earlier in the same tournament, they had progressed to the Round-of-16 with a straight-game win over Japan’s Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura.

P.V. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, is also a key player in the Indian contingent. Sindhu will face Line Christophersen of Denmark in her opening match. Sindhu showed glimpses of her prime form at the World Championships with a win over China's Wang Zhi Yi before falling in the quarterfinals, and she will aim to build on that performance in Hong Kong. Sindhu had a memorable win against world No. 6 Tomoka Miyazaki at the China Open 2025. She has had a challenging year on the BWF World Tour, with her best finish being a quarter-final appearance at the India Open in January.

Other Indian players participating in the Hong Kong Open 2025 include Lakshya Sen and H.S. Prannoy. Lakshya Sen, who finished fourth at the Paris Olympics, will be aiming to regain his rhythm and confidence after experiencing narrow losses and niggles. He will face Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei in his first match. H.S. Prannoy, after a tough loss against Anders Antonsen at the World Championships, will face Japan's Kodai Naraoka in the first round.

The Indian team also includes Ayush Shetty, Anupama Upadhyaya, and doubles pairs such as Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto and Rohan Kapoor/Ruthvika Shivani Gadde. Ayush Shetty has a tough first-round match against China's Lu Guang Zu. Anupama Upadhyaya will compete against Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki.

Fans can watch the live stream of the Hong Kong Open 2025 on the Badminton World Federation's official YouTube channel, BWF.TV. The tournament schedule includes the Round of 32 on September 9 and 10, the Round of 16 on September 11, the Quarterfinals on September 12, the Semifinals on September 13, and the Finals on September 14.
