The Indian national football team faced off against Oman in the third-place playoff of the CAFA Nations Cup 2025, concluding their inaugural participation in the tournament. The match, held on September 8, 2025, at the Hisor Central Stadium in Hisor, Tajikistan, ended in a 0-0 draw.

India's journey to the third-place match saw them finish second in Group B, with a win against Tajikistan (2-1), a loss to Iran (0-3), and a draw against Afghanistan (0-0). Oman, ranked 79th in the world, finished second in Group A, behind Uzbekistan. They had the same number of points as Uzbekistan but with an inferior goal difference.

Going into the match, Oman were considered favorites, being ranked 54 places above India (133rd). In their past encounters, Oman have dominated, winning seven out of ten matches against India, with three draws.

India's head coach, Khalid Jamil, expressed optimism about his team's chances, highlighting the team's positive mindset and determination. "All our players are fine and are all positive after these results. We must continue this positivity into the next game. I have a good feeling that we could get a positive result," Jamil said. He acknowledged Oman's strength, noting their good coach (Carlos Queiroz) and quality players, but stressed India's readiness to fight.

Anwar Ali, a key player in India's defense, emphasized the importance of the match as preparation for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. "I think it's a good opportunity for us to prepare for the Asian Cup qualifiers," said Anwar. He also acknowledged the absence of Sandesh Jhingan due to injury but expressed confidence in the team's ability to step up.

Despite India's attacking struggles throughout the tournament, with both goals coming from set-pieces in the win against Tajikistan, Jamil aimed for a positive result. Ultimately, the match concluded without any goals from either side.
