Veteran Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has officially signed with Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, marking a new chapter in his impressive career. The 33-year-old joins the German club on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester United expired this summer. Eriksen's contract with Wolfsburg extends until 2027, and he will wear the number 24 shirt.

Eriksen's departure from Manchester United came at the end of a season where the club underwent significant squad remodeling under manager Ruben Amorim. Several players left Old Trafford, with Eriksen among those whose contracts were not renewed. Despite interest from other clubs, including Wrexham, Wolfsburg emerged as the preferred destination for the Danish playmaker.

Wolfsburg's director, Sebastian Schindzielorz, expressed his delight at securing Eriksen's signature, emphasizing the player's vast experience and leadership qualities. Schindzielorz highlighted Eriksen's potential to positively influence the club's younger players, complementing the team's captain, Max Arnold. "In Christian Eriksen, we're getting a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level," Schindzielorz stated. "His enormous experience, his quality on the pitch, and his personality will be a valuable boost to our young players in particular".

Eriksen himself conveyed his excitement about joining Wolfsburg, stating, "VfL Wolfsburg is my first club in the Bundesliga – I'm really looking forward to this new adventure". He also noted the presence of several fellow Danish players in the squad as a significant factor in his decision. "The fact that there are several familiar faces in the squad from the Danish national team makes VfL a particularly attractive proposition for me," Eriksen said. Wolfsburg currently has six players from Denmark in their squad.

Prior to signing with Wolfsburg, Eriksen maintained his fitness by training with Malmö FF in Sweden. His move to the Bundesliga marks his participation in a third of Europe's top five leagues, having previously played in Serie A and the Premier League.

Eriksen's career has seen him play for Tottenham Hotspur (305 games), Ajax (163 games) and Manchester United (107 games). In 2019, his market value peaked at €100 million. Since 2021, Eriksen has been playing with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match against Finland at Euro 2020. Playing with a defibrillator is permitted in Germany.

The Danish midfielder's move to Wolfsburg provides him with a fresh opportunity to showcase his talent and contribute to a team with a clear vision for the future. Wolfsburg started the Bundesliga season with a win over Heidenheim and a draw against Mainz. Eriksen could potentially make his debut for Wolfsburg in their upcoming match against Koln.
