The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly among several teams expressing interest in acquiring Boston Bruins forward Pavel Zacha. According to an NHL source, the Canadiens have inquired about Zacha's availability. The Calgary Flames are also reportedly interested in the 28-year-old forward.

Zacha has two years remaining on his contract with an annual cap hit of $4.75 million. The contract includes a modified no-trade clause. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

Over his three seasons with the Bruins, Zacha has accumulated 56 goals and 107 assists for 163 points in 242 games. In the 2023-24 season, he recorded a career-high 21 goals and 38 assists for 59 points. Zacha has been a reliable player in the faceoff circle, averaging a 52.9% success rate, and boasts a 90.1% on-ice save percentage at even strength.

The Canadiens are looking to add a standout second-line center to their roster. Zacha could fill that role immediately in Montreal. The Canadiens made a significant move earlier in the offseason by acquiring defenseman Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders and may continue to explore trade options.

It is worth noting that the Canadiens and Bruins have not completed a player trade since 2001, outside of draft picks.

While the source indicated that discussions have occurred, a trade is not imminent. The Bruins' plans for a rebuild will likely influence whether they decide to trade Zacha. With Boston focusing on younger players, Zacha could be on the move if he doesn't fit into their long-term vision.

Several Canadiens players have been mentioned as potential trade candidates, including Joshua Roy, Oliver Kapanen, and Jayden Struble.

In other news, Canadiens forward prospect Hayden Paupanekis will miss rookie camp due to mononucleosis. Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has resumed skating after triceps surgery.
