India's campaign at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool is gaining momentum, with Minakshi Hooda securing a spot in the semi-finals and guaranteeing India another medal. This achievement marks India's fourth medal at the ongoing tournament.

Minakshi, competing in the 48kg category, demonstrated her skill and determination by defeating England's Alice Pumphrey in the quarter-finals. The lanky Indian boxer won by unanimous decision, utilizing her reach and backfoot boxing style to keep the local favorite at bay, landing straight shots effectively.

This victory propels Minakshi into the semi-finals, ensuring at least a bronze medal for the Indian contingent. She joins Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) and Pooja Rani (80kg), who have also secured semi-final berths, adding to India's growing medal tally at the prestigious event. Nupur Sheoran (80+kg) was the first Indian boxer to secure a medal at the event.

Minakshi's journey to the World Championships has been marked by dedication and perseverance. The 24-year-old boxer has been training for the past 12 years with her coach, Vijay Hooda. In the past, Minakshi has won a gold medal at the 2024 Elorda Cup and a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Boxing Championships.

The World Boxing Championships 2025 is the inaugural event organized by World Boxing, the newly formed international governing body for the sport. India has fielded a strong contingent of 20 athletes, with high expectations for both men's and women's categories.

While the women boxers have been notching up wins, the men's side has seen mixed results. Abhinash Jamwal exited in the 65kg quarter-finals, while Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg) remains in contention.

With three women boxers already in the semi-finals and Jadumani Singh Mandengbam still in the running, India aims to finish strong at the World Boxing Championships 2025.
