The Chicago Blackhawks are heading into the 2025-2026 season with a focus on consistency, and that message is being embraced by the team's rookies. With a new coaching staff and a revised philosophy, the Blackhawks are striving to establish an identity that has been elusive in recent years due to a revolving door of players and coaches.

Consistent Messaging

Rockford IceHogs head coach Jared Nightingale, who is running the prospect practices ahead of the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase, emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent philosophy. This focus on consistency aims to create a new narrative for the team. Head coach Anders Sorensen also delivered a strong message to a debuting rookie ahead of a challenging game, highlighting the need to compete against the best in the NHL.

Prospect Showcase

The Blackhawks held a practice for prospects suiting up in the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase. High-end prospects like Artyom Levshunov, Sam Rinzel, and Oliver Moore were on the ice, preparing for scrimmages. The group participated in basic drills during the first day of camp.

Many eyes are on prospects Zayne Parekh and Hunter Brzustewicz, while Basha is one of the more intriguing forwards for the Calgary Flames.

Key Prospects

Several Blackhawks prospects are garnering attention. Artyom Levshunov, the 2024 second-overall pick, is expected to be a cornerstone of the Blackhawks' defense. Sam Rinzel, a 2022 first-round pick, has also impressed, gaining 15 pounds over the summer to enhance his development. Rinzel turned heads in his nine-game debut with the Blackhawks last season, picking up five assists, 22 shots on goal. Oliver Moore is another prospect to watch, known for his speed and two-way play.

The NHL Network released a list of the top 25 NHL prospects, which featured Rinzel at No. 9 and Levshunov at No. 16. Anton Frondell, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, was ranked at No. 12.

Development Camp

Blackhawks prospects from around the globe attended the team's annual Development Camp, participating in team-building exercises, developmental activities, workouts, and training sessions. The camp focused on teaching young players good habits and tools to set them up for success as they begin their journey toward the NHL. Prospects also participated in mental skills workshops that focused on embracing growth and change, emphasizing mindset, adaptability, and long-term development.

Anton Frondell's Development Plan

Anton Frondell will play for Djurgården in Sweden this season. Kyle Davidson, the Blackhawks' general manager, supports Frondell's decision to play in Sweden, emphasizing that development is best served when the player's interests are considered. The Blackhawks envision Frondell becoming an elite two-way forward.

Rookie Camp

The first day of rookie camp had good energy. Artyom Levshunov and Sam Rinzel are participating in the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase and are ready for the important season ahead. The Blackhawks' rookie camp continues as they prepare for games over the weekend.

Jeff Blashill's Philosophy

New Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill wants his team to be a pressure team when they don't have the puck, forcing turnovers through forechecking and strong defensive zone coverage. When the team has the puck, he wants them to be predictable to each other so they can play fast, utilizing their speed to create chances off the rush. Blashill emphasizes the importance of establishing a strong culture, believing that winning will follow. He also believes in giving each coach an area of the game to own, which invigorates the coaches and strengthens their message.
