Oliver Glasner was left frustrated after Crystal Palace's recent match, feeling his team was denied a clear penalty in the closing stages of their goalless draw against Sunderland. The incident occurred in the 88th minute when Palace substitute Christantus Uche, making his Premier League debut, went down in the box under a challenge from Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor.

Glasner believed that Isidor caught Uche on the foot with his studs raised after Uche had taken a shot. He argued that even a slight touch with a stretched leg and studs up inside the penalty area should result in a penalty. "We have to get a penalty in this situation," Glasner stated. "Isidor came with the studs up and the leg stretched and he touched him. Even if it's just slightly, if you touch him with a stretched leg and studs up and it's inside the box, it's a penalty".

The Crystal Palace manager was particularly critical of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for not intervening. "For me the VAR had to intervene in this situation but it didn't happen," Glasner said.

Despite the late penalty appeal, Crystal Palace had other opportunities to score throughout the match. Yeremy Pino, a recent signing from Villarreal, made his full debut and squandered a good chance in the first half, shooting wide after being played through by Daichi Kamada. Sunderland's goalkeeper, Robin Roefs, also made several saves in the second half to keep Palace at bay.

Glasner expressed his satisfaction with Pino's overall performance, despite the missed opportunity. "I'm very pleased with Pino's performance today; maybe the cherry on top is what he missed with the goal, a big chance first half," said Glasner. He added, "But we could see where he will help us, his positioning between the lines, his understanding of the game is great". Glasner believes that Pino will adapt to the physicality and pace of the Premier League and will score goals for the team.

Sunderland, who were recently promoted, continued their positive start to the season by securing their first away point, adding to their previous home victories.

This isn't the first time Glasner has voiced his frustration over penalty decisions. In a previous match against Liverpool, he was adamant that Crystal Palace should have been awarded a penalty for a foul on Marc Guehi by Virgil van Dijk. Similarly, he couldn't believe his side wasn't given a penalty when Josko Gvardiol brought down Eberechi Eze in a game against Manchester City.

Despite the draw and the controversial penalty decision, Glasner remains focused on the positives, particularly the performance of new signing Yeremy Pino and the team's overall play. He will be hoping that Crystal Palace can convert their chances in future games and that the VAR decisions will go in their favor.
