Jared Goff delivered a stellar performance on Sunday, throwing for 334 yards and matching his career-high with five touchdown passes, as the Detroit Lions roared back to defeat the Chicago Bears 52-21. Goff's performance included a career-high three touchdown receptions by Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Lions' victory served as a strong response to their opening week loss against the Green Bay Packers.

The Lions (1-1) demonstrated resilience under coach Dan Campbell, avoiding consecutive regular season losses for the past two and a half years. The Bears (0-2), on the other hand, struggled with turnovers, committing two in the first half, which contributed to a significant 28-14 deficit. The game marked coach Ben Johnson's return to Detroit, where he previously served as the Lions' offensive coordinator and became a highly sought-after coaching prospect.

Chicago's struggles extended beyond turnovers, as they also failed to convert on downs in both halves, incurred eight penalties, and allowed four sacks. The Lions' dominant performance came within three points of matching their franchise record for the most points scored in a single game. Conversely, the Bears narrowly avoided tying the record for the most points they have ever conceded.

Bears' quarterback Caleb Williams completed 19 of 30 passes for 207 yards, throwing two touchdowns to Rome Odunze, including a 28-yard pass in response to Detroit's opening touchdown and a 6-yard throw. However, Williams, who was the No. 1 overall pick in last year's NFL draft held in Detroit, also threw an interception and was subsequently taken out of the game in the fourth quarter. Goff, having completed 23 of 28 passes, watched the game's final minutes from the sideline, secure in the knowledge that he had successfully steered the Lions' offense back on track.

Under the guidance of offensive coordinator John Morton, Goff effectively distributed the ball, utilizing both the running game with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, and the passing game with St. Brown and Jameson Williams. In the final moments of the first half, the Lions capitalized on a fortunate break when six seconds were added to the clock after time seemingly expired. This allowed Goff to connect with St. Brown for a 4-yard touchdown pass, extending Detroit's lead.

Amon-Ra St. Brown had a notable performance, catching a 4-yard touchdown pass from Goff, marking his third score of the game and solidifying the Lions' lead. Jameson Williams contributed with a 44-yard touchdown reception from Goff in the third quarter, further extending the Lions' advantage. The Lions' offense proved too much for the Bears to handle, resulting in a decisive victory for Detroit. The Lions' victory was comprehensive, with both St. Brown and Jameson Williams exceeding 100 receiving yards. Gibbs also surpassed 100 scrimmage yards, demonstrating the Lions' offensive versatility.
