Viljami Marjala is an Oilers prospect drawing significant attention as the 2025-26 season approaches. The Edmonton Oilers signed the Finnish forward to a two-year entry-level contract on June 7, 2025. Marjala, who measures 6'1" and weighs 180 lbs, spent the previous three seasons playing in Finland's Liiga with TPS Turku.

In 129 games with TPS Turku, Marjala tallied 29 goals and 72 assists. During the 2024-25 campaign, his 52 points tied for the team lead, and his 44 assists led all forwards and ranked fifth in the league.

Originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round (159th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft, Marjala wasn't signed by the Sabres by the June 1st, 2025, deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent. This allowed the Oilers to sign him to a two-year entry-level contract. Before turning pro, Marjala played two productive seasons in the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts, scoring 18 goals and 55 assists in 98 games.

Marjala's contract carries a cap hit of $872,500 per season. His base salary for the 2025-26 season is $775,000, with a signing bonus of $97,500 and a minors salary of $85,000. At the end of the 2026-27 season, he will become a restricted free agent.

Marjala is a skilled playmaker with the ability to find teammates in open ice and complete passes. He is versatile, capable of playing both center and wing. It is expected that he will begin the 2025-26 season with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL, where he will adapt to the North American professional style of play.

Despite being a fifth-round pick, Marjala possesses potential. His offensive instincts and playmaking abilities could make him a valuable asset for the Oilers in the future. With the Oilers looking to add skill to complement their high-end players, Marjala should get an opportunity to earn an NHL job in the coming seasons.

In a rookie showcase game, Marjala impressed with his playmaking and skating. He scored a goal early in the game, demonstrating patience and skill. His performance in the rookie showcase could earn him a longer look with some of Edmonton's top prospects during training camp.
