Arsenal's Max Dowman, a rising star at just 15 years old, has been included in the Gunners' Champions League squad and has the potential to become the youngest player ever to feature in the competition. Dowman's inclusion in the squad marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career, which has already seen him become the second-youngest player to appear in a Premier League match.

The current record for the youngest Champions League player is held by Youssoufa Moukoko, who made his debut for Borussia Dortmund at the age of 16 years and 18 days in 2020. For Dowman to break this record, he would need to play in one of Arsenal's first six Champions League league phase matches. Dowman doesn't turn 16 until December 31st, making him eligible to break the record in any of Arsenal's Champions League games before then. If he makes his debut in Arsenal's seventh league phase fixture on January 20, 2026, he would be 16 years and 20 days old, which is two days older than Moukoko when he made his debut.

Dowman's inclusion in Arsenal's 'A List' for the Champions League squad was necessary because he does not qualify as a 'locally trained player' under UEFA rules. To be considered locally trained, a player must have been registered with a club for three entire seasons between the ages of 15 and 21. Other young Arsenal players like Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are in the Champions League squad but don't need to be on the 'A List' because they are considered locally trained.

Arsenal's manager has shown faith in the youngster by including him in the squad for such a prestigious competition. This decision highlights Dowman's potential and the club's belief in his ability to perform at the highest level.

The new Champions League format features 36 teams playing eight different opponents in a single-standings table through January. The top eight teams advance to the round of 16, while the next 16 teams enter a two-leg playoff for the remaining eight spots.

Max Dowman could make Champions League history in the match against Athletic Club. If he plays in that game, he would be 15 years and 258 days old.
