Liverpool fans eagerly anticipate Alexander Isak's potential debut against Atletico Madrid in their upcoming Champions League clash at Anfield. The Swedish striker, who arrived from Newcastle United for a British record fee of £125 million, is in contention to feature in the high-profile match.

Manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Isak will be part of the squad, but has also stated that he is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes. Slot acknowledged Isak's lack of pre-season training due to his efforts to secure a move from Newcastle, stating that the club will take a "measured approach" to his return to full match fitness. Isak had been training separately from Newcastle's first-team squad during the summer.

"There's definitely a chance because he's in the squad," Slot said. "Then there's a chance to play, normally I would say 99.9% sure, but I can say that is 100% sure that he will not play 90 minutes." He further added, "It's a Champions League game to look forward to, but if people are looking forward to his playing time then that could happen tomorrow as well."

Isak's last appearance was for Sweden as a second-half substitute in their World Cup 2026 Qualifying match against Kosovo. He has been working to build sharpness since joining Liverpool. Slot suggested that Isak's involvement against Atletico Madrid was a more beneficial approach than giving him limited minutes in the Premier League match against Burnley.

In other team news, Alexis Mac Allister is fit to face Atletico Madrid despite a heavy tackle in the Burnley game. Curtis Jones, however, will miss the game due to a fitness problem. Slot indicated that Jones could be available for the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.

Liverpool is aiming to continue their winning streak, being the only Premier League team with a 100% record after four games. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid secured their first La Liga win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Villarreal. Liverpool has won their last three encounters with Atletico Madrid.
