The India U17 men's national team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the SAFF U17 Championship 2025 after a narrow 1-0 victory against Bhutan. The match, held at the Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo, saw India securing their second consecutive Group B win.

Rahan Ahmed, a second-half substitute, scored the decisive goal in the 57th minute, earning him the Player of the Match award. Despite the win, the match was a tighter contest than many anticipated. Bhutan's defense proved resilient, holding firm against India's attacks.

India had previously defeated the Maldives 6-0 in their opening match. In contrast, Bhutan suffered a 4-0 defeat against Pakistan.

The match started with India pressing high and dominating possession. However, Bhutan remained compact, making it difficult for India to break through. One of India's initial opportunities came in the 27th minute when Kamgouhao Doungel's header from a Wangkheirakpam Gunleiba cross went wide. Shubham Poonia won a free kick, but it didn't cause any trouble for the Bhutanese goalkeeper. Denny Singh Wangkhem's powerful cross in the 37th minute nearly found Doungel, but it was blocked. Just before halftime, Denny had another chance, but his shot missed the mark.

After the break, India intensified their efforts. Ahmed's goal in the 57th minute finally broke the deadlock. This goal was enough to secure the win and a place in the semi-finals.

India's coach, Bibiano Fernandes, is aiming for his fifth SAFF title. He previously led India to the SAFF U19 title in May 2025 and the SAFF U17 Championship in 2022. Fernandes emphasized the importance of staying focused and grounded despite the excitement of defending their title.

With the victory, India has booked their spot in the semi-finals alongside Pakistan. India will face Pakistan on September 22. The winner of that match will top Group B.

The SAFF U17 Championship 2025 includes all seven SAFF nations. Group A consists of Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh, while Group B includes India, Maldives, Bhutan, and Pakistan. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on September 25, with the final scheduled for September 27.
