In a thrilling start to the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh edged out Sri Lanka by four wickets in a nail-biting match held in Dubai on Saturday. The victory, achieved with just one ball to spare, saw Bangladesh successfully chase down Sri Lanka's total of 168/7, finishing at 169/6.

Sri Lanka's innings was powered by a late surge from Dasun Shanaka, who remained unbeaten on 64 off just 37 balls, hitting six sixes and three fours. Kusal Mendis also contributed a valuable 34. Mustafizur Rahman (3/20) and Mahedi Hasan (2/25) were the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, with Hasan making crucial breakthroughs early in the innings.

Bangladesh's chase got off to a shaky start, losing Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the first over. However, Saif Hassan and Litton Das steadied the ship before Hassan took charge, scoring a well-constructed 61 off 45 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Towhid Hridoy then took the baton, smashing 58 off 37 deliveries, with two sixes, to propel Bangladesh closer to the finish line.

The game, however, was far from over. With just five runs needed off the final over, bowled by Dasun Shanaka, Bangladesh experienced a late wobble. Jaker Ali struck a boundary off the first ball but was then bowled. Shanaka followed up with another wicket, dismissing Mahedi Hasan for a duck. With one run needed off the last two balls, Nasum Ahmed and Shamim Hossain kept their cool to snatch a single and secure a thrilling victory for Bangladesh.

The win is a significant one for Bangladesh, giving them a crucial head start in the Super Four stage. They will face India next on September 24, 2025, also in Dubai. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will look to bounce back against Pakistan on September 23, 2025, in Abu Dhabi.

This match was a revenge for Bangladesh, who lost against Sri Lanka in the group stage.
