The game, however, was far from over. With just five runs needed off the final over, bowled by Dasun Shanaka, Bangladesh experienced a late wobble. Jaker Ali struck a boundary off the first ball but was then bowled. Shanaka followed up with another wicket, dismissing Mahedi Hasan for a duck. With one run needed off the last two balls, Nasum Ahmed and Shamim Hossain kept their cool to snatch a single and secure a thrilling victory for Bangladesh.
The win is a significant one for Bangladesh, giving them a crucial head start in the Super Four stage. They will face India next on September 24, 2025, also in Dubai. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will look to bounce back against Pakistan on September 23, 2025, in Abu Dhabi.
This match was a revenge for Bangladesh, who lost against Sri Lanka in the group stage.
