Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has filed his nomination for the position of BCCI President, marking a significant development in Indian cricket administration. The nomination was submitted at the Board's headquarters on Sunday, ahead of the deadline. This move positions the 45-year-old Manhas as a frontrunner to succeed Roger Binny, who stepped down from the role last month.

Manhas's candidacy emerged following an informal meeting in New Delhi, where key decision-makers within Indian cricket decided to propose his name for the BCCI presidency. Rajeev Shukla, the BCCI vice-president, confirmed the formation of a panel with Manhas as the presidential candidate. Shukla also announced his own nomination to continue as the vice-president.

The elections for various office-bearer positions are scheduled to be held at the BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on September 28, 2025.

The Proposed Panel

Rajeev Shukla announced the panel's composition, with key nominations alongside Mithun Manhas for President:

  • Vice-President: Rajeev Shukla
  • Secretary: Devajit Saikia
  • Joint Secretary: Prabhtej Bhatia
  • Treasurer: Raghuram Bhat

Devajit Saikia, who has been serving as BCCI secretary, has also filed his nomination to continue in the role.

Mithun Manhas: A Profile

Mithun Manhas, who will turn 46 next month, has had a long career in domestic cricket. From 1997-98 to 2016-17, he played 157 First-Class matches, amassing 9714 runs. He also has 130 List A appearances and 91 T20 matches to his name. Manhas has been actively involved in cricket administration and was a member of the BCCI-appointed sub-committee overseeing the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). He shifted from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir in 2015 before retiring from professional cricket the following year. Since retiring, Manhas has held coaching positions with IPL franchises such as Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans, and he also coached Bangladesh's U-19 team.

Other Key Developments

  • Raghuram Bhat: The former India spinner and current president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is expected to take over as treasurer.
  • Arun Dhumal: The current chairman of the IPL governing council, is expected to continue in his position.
  • Jaydev Shah: The president of Saurashtra CA, is set to replace Dilip Vengsarkar in the Apex Council.

The Election Process

The nomination window was open from September 20 to September 21. The scrutiny and withdrawal of nominations will follow, after which the final list will be published. The elections are scheduled to take place at the AGM on September 28 in Mumbai. Unless there are any last-minute contests or withdrawals, the panel announced by Rajeev Shukla is likely to assume charge at the AGM.

The selection meeting for the Indian team for the two-Test series against the West Indies will be held online in a couple of days, either on September 23 or 24.
