The Vancouver Canucks have trimmed their training camp roster ahead of their first preseason game against the Seattle Kraken. The team announced the roster updates on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Roster Reductions

The Canucks have reduced their training camp roster to 50 players. Nine players were affected in the first round of cuts. None of the cuts were unexpected, with the players either on amateur tryout contracts (ATO) or destined for the American Hockey League (AHL) or Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

The players who were cut from the roster are:

  • Josh Bloom (assigned to Abbotsford Canucks, AHL)
  • Jackson Kunz (released from professional tryout, reports to Abbotsford, AHL)
  • Cooper Walker (released from professional tryout, reports to Abbotsford, AHL)
  • Dino Kambeitz (released from professional tryout, reports to Abbotsford, AHL)
  • Gabriel Chiarot (reports to OHL team)
  • Riley Patterson (reports to OHL team)
  • Kieren Dervin (reports to OHL team)
  • Aleksei Medvedev (reports to OHL team)
  • Zack Sandhu (amateur tryout defenseman, reports to OHL team)

With these cuts, Braeden Cootes is the only 2025 draft pick remaining on the roster and is expected to make his preseason debut against the Kraken.

Preseason Game vs. Kraken

The Canucks face the Seattle Kraken in their first preseason game on September 21 at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT. A young Canucks lineup is expected against the Kraken. The Canucks are bringing a lineup that features over a dozen players who played in the NHL last season.

The following players are expected to be in the Canucks' lineup against the Kraken: Braeden Cootes, Filip Chytil, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Nils Höglander, Kiefer Sherwood, Drew O'Connor, Teddy Blueger, Nils Åman, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Elias Pettersson, Tom Willander, and Victor Mancini.

The game will be available via livestream on Canucks.com. It may also be available on Sportsnet+.

Further Roster Adjustments

More cuts are anticipated after the Kraken game as the Canucks approach their regular season opener on October 9. The Canucks will need to reach the 23-man roster limit by October 6.

Canucks' Preseason Schedule

The Canucks have a six-game preseason schedule. They will face the Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, and Edmonton Oilers twice each.

The Canucks' 2025 preseason schedule is as follows:

  • September 21 vs Seattle Kraken (away)
  • September 24 vs Calgary Flames (Abbotsford Centre)
  • September 26 vs Seattle Kraken (home)
  • September 28 vs Edmonton Oilers (away)

The regular season begins on October 9 with a home game against the Calgary Flames.
