Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has won the inaugural Women's Yashin Trophy at the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony. The award recognizes the world's best female goalkeeper. The ceremony took place on September 22, 2025. Hampton's win comes after a stellar 2024/25 season, marked by a domestic Treble with Chelsea and a crucial role in England's UEFA Women's Championship victory.

Hampton topped the voting ahead of Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Daphne van Domselaar. At club level, Hampton kept 21 clean sheets in all competitions and made 34 appearances for Chelsea last season. Hampton was also instrumental in England's Euro 2025 triumph, saving two penalties in the final shoot-out against Spain. She also registered the highest save percentage of any goalkeeper during the tournament, at 70.8 per cent.

The 24-year-old's passing range was also praised during the tournament. Notably, she picked out Alessia Russo with a long ball, leading to an assist for Lauren James' goal against the Netherlands.

In her acceptance speech, Hampton paid tribute to former Liverpool Women boss Matt Beard, who died at the age of 47. She acknowledged his contributions to women's football. Hampton also honored her grandfather, who passed away shortly before England's Euro campaign.

Hampton said she felt the award was an achievement for women's goalkeeping as a whole. She also thanked her family and coaches. Hampton specifically thanked her brother for his sacrifices and the coaches at Stoke, Birmingham, Villa, and Chelsea. She also thanked Serena Wiegman and Darren Ward for their faith in her.

Hampton's journey to the top includes time with Stoke City and Birmingham City academies. She also spent five years in Spain with Villarreal CF's youth team. Hampton signed with Chelsea in July 2023 and quickly became the first-choice goalkeeper. In the 2024–25 season, Hampton kept 13 clean sheets in 22 league appearances, sharing the Golden Glove award with Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

The Yashin Trophy is named after legendary Russian goalkeeper Lev Yashin. It was first awarded to men in 2019. Gianluigi Donnarumma won the Men's Yashin Trophy for the second time.

Other notable awards at the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony included Ousmane Dembélé winning the Men's Ballon d'Or. Aitana Bonmatí won the Women's Ballon d'Or for the third time. Sarina Wiegman was named Best Women's Coach.
