Ruben Amorim: Man Utd managers' future hangs in the balance if performance doesn't improve soon.

Pressure is mounting on Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim following a disappointing start to the Premier League season. After replacing Erik ten Hag in November of last year, Amorim's record stands at just 18 wins in 42 games. The team currently sits in the bottom half of the table, with only two victories this season against Burnley and Chelsea.

Amorim is aware of the speculation surrounding his future and acknowledges the need for improved results. "Nobody here is naive," he stated, as his team prepares to host Sunderland. While bookmakers had previously listed him as the favorite to be the next Premier League manager sacked, Ange Postecoglou has since taken that spot. However, a defeat against Sunderland could easily shift the odds once again.

Despite the poor results, Amorim insists that he will not walk away from the club. "What makes me suffer is to lose games, not to lose my job," he said. He also defended his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, which brought him success at Sporting CP, stating that it is not to blame for the team's struggles. Amorim argued that the system wasn't the issue in their losses against Arsenal and Brentford. He believes the problems lie elsewhere, particularly in how they concede goals and create chances.

Several Manchester United legends have voiced their concerns about the team's performances and Amorim's tactics. Wayne Rooney has been particularly critical, stating that he no longer recognizes his former club. Gary Neville and Peter Schmeichel have also questioned Amorim's decisions. In response, Amorim acknowledged their right to express their opinions but insisted that blaming the system is misguided. He pointed out that when the team performs well, the formation is never questioned.

Amorim's coaching career began in 2018-19 with third-division team Casa Pia. He later managed Braga's reserves before taking over at Sporting CP in March 2020. During his time at Sporting CP, he achieved considerable success, winning the Taça da Liga and the Primeira Liga in his first season, ending the club's 19-year league title drought. He was also named Primeira Liga's Manager of the Year. Amorim secured another Primeira Liga title with Sporting CP in the 2023-24 season before joining Manchester United on November 1, 2024.

Amorim remains determined to turn things around at Manchester United and believes that he can still bring success to the club. However, he is also realistic about the situation and understands that his future depends on improving the team's results.
