These discussions are expected to have occurred during the squad selection meeting on October 4th, ahead of the white-ball series against Australia.

Rohit Sharma, who has already retired from T20Is and Tests, is 38 years old. Considering that he will be 40 by the time the 2027 World Cup in South Africa is held, the BCCI is likely to discuss his long-term future in the 50-over format, both as a player and captain. According to reports, the selection committee intended to address this topic with Rohit in person.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer's name has emerged as a potential candidate for a leadership role. Despite challenges such as injuries and exclusion from the BCCI's central contract list, Iyer has bounced back with strong performances in domestic cricket and the IPL.
