India vs West Indies 2nd Test, Day 2: Jaiswal chases double century as India builds huge first innings lead.

Delhi, October 11, 2025 – India resumed Day 2 of the second and final Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium with high hopes of posting a massive first innings total, but faced an early setback. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dominated Day 1 with a magnificent 173 not out, was unfortunately run out early in the morning session for 175.

India began the day at 318/2, with Jaiswal eyeing his seventh Test century and potentially a double ton. Captain Shubman Gill, who was unbeaten on 20 overnight, accompanied him at the crease. The pair aimed to build on their strong platform and put further pressure on the West Indies. However, West Indies struck early as Jaiswal was run out.

On Day 1, India had won the toss and elected to bat, getting off to a terrific start with Jaiswal and KL Rahul putting on a half-century opening stand. Rahul was dismissed for a well-made 38. Jaiswal then continued his dominant batting display, forging a century stand with Sai Sudharsan.

Sudharsan missed out on his maiden Test century, falling for 87, after a 193-run second-wicket partnership with Jaiswal. He admitted his disappointment at missing the century but expressed gratitude for his contribution and the valuable partnership. He also lauded Jaiswal's exceptional batting and his ability to convert good balls into boundaries.

Jaiswal's innings on Day 1 was a blend of caution and aggression, including 22 fours in a 253-ball knock. His elegant drives and quick singles delighted the crowd, further solidifying his reputation as a promising young talent in Test cricket.

The West Indies bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, with only Jomel Warrican managing to take two wickets. Despite some disciplined spells, they were unable to sustain pressure, allowing India to finish Day 1 in a commanding position.

India is coming into this match on the back of a massive win in the first Test of the series by an innings and 145 runs, that too inside three days. The team will now look to win the match and thus pocket the series, inflicting a whitewash over West Indies. A win would be crucial for Shubman Gill, especially. If they win this Test, this will mark the first series win for Shubman Gill ever since he became the Test captain of the Indian team.

The pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium is expected to favor both batsmen and bowlers throughout the day. Spinners might find assistance from the rough areas, while pacers could exploit extra seam and pace.
