India Declares at 518-5 Against West Indies in Second Test
New Delhi, October 11, 2025 – India declared their first innings at a formidable 518-5 against the West Indies on the second day of the second and final Test match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The declaration came after a dominant batting performance headlined by centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill. India leads the two-Test series 1-0.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten overnight, reached 173 runs on the first day, eventually being dismissed for 175 early on Day 2. His impressive innings included 22 boundaries, demonstrating a blend of aggression and composure. Jaiswal's knock was cut short due to a mix-up with Gill while attempting a single, leading to a run-out.
Captain Shubman Gill anchored the innings with an unbeaten 129 off 196 deliveries, marking his 10th Test century. Gill, who began the day cautiously, showcased fluent batting, hitting 16 fours and two sixes. He reached his half-century earlier in the day and continued to build a strong partnership with Dhruv Jurel.
Sai Sudharsan also made a significant contribution with a well-compiled 87. Sudharsan and Jaiswal combined for a 193-run partnership for the second wicket. Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel (44) added valuable runs, helping India surpass the 500-run mark. Gill and Jurel put on a quick 102 runs for the fifth wicket.
West Indies's bowling attack struggled to contain the Indian batsmen. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wickets for 98 runs. Roston Chase picked up 1 wicket after he bowled Jurel with a delivery that stayed low.
At the close of play, West Indies openers John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul were at the crease, facing a daunting first-innings total. India is aiming to secure a series whitewash following their dominant innings victory in the first Test. A victory in this Test would mark Shubman Gill's first series win as the Test captain of the Indian team.
India won the toss and elected to bat, aiming to build a substantial lead. The pitch is expected to favor bowlers as the match progresses.
