Erling Haaland's Hat-Trick Powers Norway Past Israel: A Continued Dominance in Front of Goal

Oslo, Norway – Erling Haaland's remarkable scoring form continued as he bagged a hat-trick in Norway's dominant 5-0 victory over Israel in their World Cup qualifier on Saturday. The Manchester City striker's performance propelled Norway closer to securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

The match, however, began with a dramatic twist for Haaland. In the third minute, Norway was awarded a penalty after Patrick Berg was fouled. Haaland stepped up to take the spot-kick, but his effort was saved by Israel's goalkeeper Daniel Peretz. The save was short-lived, as VAR ordered a retake due to Peretz moving off his line prematurely. Haaland took the second penalty, but Peretz guessed correctly again, denying the Norwegian striker once more.

Despite the early setback, Haaland remained unfazed. In the 18th minute, Alexander Sorloth's cross deflected off Anan Khalaili and into the net, giving Norway a 1-0 lead. Just a minute later, Haaland capitalized on a quick counter-attack, receiving a pass from Sorloth and finishing with a composed right-footed shot to double Norway's advantage.

Norway continued to pile on the pressure, and in the 28th minute, Haaland was involved in their third goal. Peretz's rushed clearance struck Idan Nachmias and ricocheted into the net, adding to Israel's woes. To compound matters, Nachmias sustained an injury in the process.

The second half saw no change in momentum as Norway maintained their dominance. Haaland completed his hat-trick with two headers from Antonio Nusa's left-wing crosses in the 63rd and 72nd minutes. His second goal of the match marked his 50th goal for Norway in just 46 appearances. Jorgen Strand Larsen, who came off the bench, had a potential sixth goal disallowed for offside after being set up by Haaland.

This latest hat-trick brings Haaland's goal tally to over 20 for the season across club and country. Norway's 5-0 victory was their sixth in the World Cup qualifying cycle and their ninth consecutive win, marking their longest winning streak on the international stage. With this win, Norway solidify their position at the top of their qualifying group.

Prior to the game, there were pro-Palestine protests in Oslo.
