Ronaldo's record-breaking goal came in the 22nd minute, when he scored from close range to equalize for Portugal. This strike marked his 40th goal in World Cup qualifying matches, surpassing the previous record held by former Guatemalan player Carlos Ruiz. He then added a second goal in first-half stoppage time, extending his record to 41 goals in 50 World Cup qualifying games. His international goal count now stands at a record-extending 143 goals.

Despite Ronaldo's heroics, Portugal were held to a 2-2 draw by Hungary. Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai scored a late equalizer in added time, denying Portugal an early qualification for the World Cup. Portugal currently leads Group F, five points ahead of Hungary.

Meanwhile, in Group F's other match, the Republic of Ireland secured a 1-0 victory over 10-man Armenia, closing the gap on Hungary in the race for second place. Ireland is now just one point behind Hungary.

Other notable results from Tuesday's World Cup qualifying matches include Spain's 4-0 win against Bulgaria, maintaining their 100% record in Group E. Turkey defeated Georgia 4-1, remaining three points behind in their group. Italy kept their qualification hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over Israel.
