The Carolina Hurricanes are off to a blazing start in the 2025-2026 NHL season, standing as the league's only undefeated team. Their success is fueled by impressive offensive depth, with multiple players riding significant point streaks. After a 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, October 16th, the Hurricanes boast a perfect 4-0-0 record.
A key factor in Carolina's dominant start is the number of players contributing consistently on the scoresheet. In fact, eight players had registered a point in every game to start the season. These players come from all four lines and include two defensemen. Walt Ruff, a team reporter, noted that this is the first time in franchise history that so many players have had an opening-season point streak of three games or more.
Among the Hurricanes enjoying impressive point streaks are Seth Jarvis, Sebastian Aho, Shayne Gostisbehere, Taylor Hall, Alexander Nikishin, Jackson Blake, Jordan Martinook, and Eric Robinson.
Thursday night's game against the Ducks also saw individual milestones achieved. Seth Jarvis scored his 100th NHL goal, reaching the milestone in just 308 games. He is the fifth-fastest Hurricane to reach this mark, behind Eric Staal who accomplished it in 268 games. Jarvis capped off the night with a three-point performance, scoring two goals and adding an assist, bringing his season total to seven points, tying him with Shayne Gostisbehere for the team lead. Jarvis leads the team with five goals.
Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere is also off to a hot start, with seven points in four games, tying him with Cale Makar for the lead among NHL defensemen. Gostisbehere's plus-9 rating and ongoing point streak mark the best start to a season in his career. According to Canes Stat Brand, Gostisbehere is only the second player in NHL history to start a season with a plus-2 rating and at least one point in each of the first four games; the first was Wayne Gretzky in 1988. Gostisbehere also contributed three assists in the game against the Ducks.
Alexander Nikishin also celebrated a milestone, scoring his first NHL goal. The 23-year-old Russian defenseman scored in the third period, assisted by Gostisbehere and Aho. Nikishin has a four-game point streak to start the season, with one goal and three assists.
The Hurricanes' penalty kill has also been a major asset, allowing only one goal while down a man this season. In the game against the Ducks, the penalty kill unit successfully stopped all four of Anaheim's power-play opportunities. Excellent pressure from Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook on the blue line contributed to the strong penalty kill performance.
The Hurricanes continue their six-game road trip with a game against the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, October 17th.
